The Canvas Project
May 27, 2009 on 10:53 am | In Post-Its | 8 CommentsI haven’t exhibited any of my art since I left Cancun (which has been three years now). So Im really excited about taking part in Atlanta’s Art House Gallery’s The Canvas Project Volume 2. It’s not a juried show, but it is a show.
The concept is a visual encyclopedia. They sent out five 3×3 inch canvases along with a list of 5 randomly selected, community generated words - one word for each canvas. The idea is to visually create a definition for each word on its respected canvas. From July 31 - September 4, 2009 it will be in the Atlanta Airport Atrium Gallery and then there will be a second show at the Art House Gallery on September 25, 2009.
My words were part, self-aware, kiki, Freedom Fighters and progressive. Last night I finished up painting the fifth one so I am ready to share. All of them are 3×3 inches, acrylic on canvas.

SACKETS: Fun, Free & Functional
May 6, 2009 on 5:22 pm | In Craftsy | 2 CommentsFor the past year and a half or so I have been doing a craft night for teenage girls a couple times a month. I am always on the look out for projects that will pass the teenage girl “cool” test, be fairly simple, and not expensive when it comes to supplies. My favorite projects have been the paper maché ones, as that is what I’m best at, the supplies are incredibly cheap, and the results are always so cool. But this week I have a new project that I’m very excited about. The “sacket” (Sack/basket=sacket - Name thanks to my friend Jenn) pictured below is made from two clothes hangers and twenty-two grocery bags. Didn’t cost a penny, easy, fun, and who can’t use a basket? I’m hoping the girls will be as enthusiastic as I am.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time looking through other people’s blogs looking for cheap, easy projects that teens might enjoy and I’ve been surprised by how hard they are to find. If you have some ideas for other projects the girls might enjoy or would like to know more about the process of making the sackets, let me know.
